The last air of my lungs out
of me, I sink myself
to the sea floor, join
the mollusks wide-eyed
at the ocean’s surface. I watch
the light glistening, the blur
of sky, an edge
of cliff, bobbing above me.
In the distance, a whale calls
me by my new name. A wordless
bellow of low
frequency.
I convert
into salt
& restless
wonder.
