we woke this morning
with plenty of reasons
to hate the world.
valid reasons, too,
sourced and cited properly.
you even said last night
if this is it you don’t
see the point in a long life.
i hate to hear it spoken,
but yes, i agreed: if.
despite this, we chose
to love it, chose to build
a little joy from scraps,
like frogs too stupid
to jump from a boiling pot.
