Victor as in winner
as in champion
as in he who triumphed
over the lack of life
and like Prometheus
drew a flame from nothing
a teacher told me
we are only as good
as our last piece of art
and I see yours stomping
through the fields
ahead of torches and pitchforks
and I am sorry Victor
you who labored
over each sinew and freckle
and waited for lightning
once it was running
it was no longer yours
like a statue left
to the pigeons and rain
I am sorry
how every piece of art
is a portrait
how the lunk hand
wraps around the throat
and how we only get
one magnum opus
how we pretend
you ruined everything
you touched
